One Good Wag Deserves Another

One of my all-time favorite stories happened last spring. A couple of our friends went out of town, and asked if we would watch their two little puppies while they were away. The twins absolutely fell in love with the dogs Daphne and Shaggy. For a couple of weeks following our puppy-sitting adventure, they would pretend to be the dogs. Early one morning, Aiden crawled into bed with me and began to "wag" his bum. Affectionately I patted his bottom and said, "Shaggy, you have no tail!" Without missing a beat, Aiden replied, "Yes I do, it's on backwards!"

Simple Honesty

A couple of evenings ago, I was going to meet some girlfriends for dinner. Cameron (Papa) was excited to spend the evening with the kids. He was busy in the kitchen making dinner, with Aiden by his side. Anyone who's ever eaten Cameron's cooking knows it's hit or miss. It's either really good, or really bad. My personal favorite was his attempt at blueberry and maple salmon! Needless to say, we actually had to call out for Chinese that night! As he stirred a pot, Papa called Aiden over, telling him he got to be the guinea pig. Aiden looked at him, and softly said, "No Daddy, I just want to be a person."

Money Money Money

This next encounter occurred a couple of years ago when the twins were just two. I took the boys grocery shopping. A trip, which under certain circumstances can pose quite a challenge. The boys were buckled into the car portion of the double cart, I had my list, and we were off and running. I knew my time was limited, so I focused on the list and planned to just plow through the chore. I was not paying much attention when Ross, in a happy little sing-song voice, said "Mommy!" Methodically, I replied in a similar voice with, "Baby!" A few seconds later, Ross repeated his happy little "Mommy!", to which I promptly replied with another "Baby!" We continued this dialogue for some time as I studiously compared prices, and checked items off my list. It wasn't until I stopped to actually look at the boys, that reality hit me. Ross had not been chanting "Mommy" as I had thought. In actuality, he had found my purse and was saying "Money!" as he pulled out dollar bills and various other denominations, and tossed them joyfully into the air. As I scanned the empty isle behind us, I noticed that it was littered with bills that had once belonged in my handbag! I learned a "valuable" lesson that day!

An "Easy" Bedtime...

Since my husband was out for the evening, I found myself enjoying a a laid back evening with the children. I was just priding myself on how easy it was to get the twins upstairs to bed, when the evening took a turn. I was just heading back downstairs with the baby when she threw up all over both of us. I'm not talking a little bit of spit-up. I'm talking about full-on, chunky, pungent, white, vomit. And it was no small amount either. It was literally dripping off us both. I quickly popped in to explain to the twins that mommy was covered in a mess, and needed them to stay in bed so I could clean everything up. After they agreed, I headed down to try to resolve the situation. Since we were both drenched, I decided the best resolution was to strip us both down, and take a little bath together. I was just rinsing us off when I heard one of the twins at the top of the stairs calling frantically for me. Not sure exactly what the problem was, I jumped out of the tub, grabbed the first towel I could get my hands on (which turned out to be a hand towel), and bolted down the hallway toward the stairs. Water rained down upon the hallway as I tried rather unsuccessfully to warm the baby with the miniature towel and cover as much of myself as possible with what was left over. Aiden, the twin in question, urged me to run faster as I panted up the stairs, cold, naked, and slightly soapy. As I reached the top of the landing and began scanning for sings of trauma, Aiden looked at me with big innocent eyes and said, "Momma, I sneezed."

Brief Background

For anyone who doesn't know me, I am BeckyBoo. I'm the momma of identical twin boys, who for the past four years have filled my life with joy, love, and chaos! My three boys (husband included) and I have recently welcomed a new little girl to our family, and we have found that the fun and craziness we had previously experienced was only just beginning. I often find myself entertaining friends and family with the humorous tales of our daily lives, and have been encouraged a few times to write a book detailing our encounters. As fun as that may sound, it seems like a big job. I have instead decided to publish a blog. This option is a bit less daunting, but still allows others a glimpse into our world. As a parent, I thoroughly enjoy each moment (although not always when I'm in the moment) with my family, and hope you can find joy, humor, and entertainment in our stories as well.
